What makes a good blog?

With the over saturation of blogs on the internet it's hard to sift through the copious amounts of blogs out there, let alone fashion blogs! Whether it be for venting out ones personal thoughts or a having a platform for a professional fashion journalism, successful blogs all have simple guidelines that they follow in order to stay a top. Here is a list of just a few;

1. What is the point of the blog?  What is significant about your blog? These are just a few questions that need to be asked in order to have a thriving blog both in popularity and content. The content of ones blog is endless and only limited by ones imagination. So thereby blogs can be about anything, litterally anything! In saying this, a very personal 1st person blog seems incredible egocentric and dare I say, a little dull. Hone in your thoughts, what are your passions? What do you obsess about? Likely-hood some other lonely schmuck feels the same way and will want to know more. So to all the new bloggers out there my advice would be to edit down your thoughts and ideas and stick to one topic... for now anyway.     
2. Good blogs put in the extra effort! Successful blogs don't just happen with zero effort. Believe it or not but blogs are a lot work! The creator actually researches their selected topic and will constantly find new and exciting things about said topic. Although, as soon as one mentions 'work' the idea of creating a blog goes straight out the window. Please don't be deterred! If the topic is really something one actually interested in it will all happen naturally. As previously mentioned there are million of blogs out there but only a select few are worth your time.  
3. Flourishing blogs are different and unconventional. Some of the best and rare blogs have unusual formats. They show a certain amount of creativity that translates well to the screen. This can include a simple layout with minimal text and employs more image and videos. Bloggers rival blogging site Tumblr would be the best example for this. A layout that is clean and straight forward will be a refreshing change in comparison to other overly congested websites. In saying this, image and video based blogs can get lazy and and half-assed, which in turn contradicts point #2! Do not be fooled, image based blogs are still worthy of effort. If ones blog follows a certain theme, selected visuals still need to follow the theme. Figuring out the order, size and amount of images is a whole other topic!

So in the end, decipher the overall point of the blog, make sure the keep is fresh and exciting and above all remember the effort!
