Fashion blogs!

The internet is a fantastic source for finding out the latest in fashion. In fact, the both of them share a lot of similarities. The main parallel that springs to mind would be the almost impossible high turn over of information the both of them feed. The two are constantly a buzz and churning out the latest 'fever X' so it was only natural of them to perfectly coincide. Thus, fashion blogs were created. Here is brief sum up of a few, both expert and novice.


First up, the incredibly notable blog The Sartorialist. A blog that began in New York by local New Yorker Scott Schuman. He began his blog by simply taking photographs of local fashionistas that caught his eye. Over time the blog caught momentum and gained a wide variety of followers. It is renowned for featuring high street fashion and a flurry of bourgeois folk of the like. It has an air of sophistication that almost verges on the pompous. Beautiful people in their beautiful clothes, where everything is just fabulous and darling. Even the name resembles pretentiousness, Jean-Paul Sartre being the obvious influence to the name (proving to be incredibly learned much?) Anyway, although the blog has its' down falls I can most definitely see why it is so popular. How can one not see the appeal? It's simple, straight forward and shows the rich in all their glory.

The second blog is yet another Blogger resident and fellow Australia, Ms.Fitz. She is a stylist that started out in the Australian fashion industry but has now moved on to bigger and better ventures over in New York. I find her and her work particularly interesting because she did not study fashion nor did she even do anything remotely creative. Do not quote me but I am fairly certain that she studied politics in Queensland, of all things. So how does one get into the industry without a background in fashion? Sure talent helps but this girl has gotten in purely by personality. She's loud and lavish and knows what she wants. Being a freelance stylist I'm sure is not easy, you have to really go out of your way to meet and greet. Using a blog as a source to keep everyone in the loop is common but clever.The best way to know the latest on whatever project she is working on is through her blog. I am a regular follower of said blog and enjoy viewing the latest creations. Although, I am an a fan of her work and like certain aspects, I do not grovel or really admire it. I find since she does not have a fashion or creative background that there is a certain unprofessional finish to her work. That being said I do love viewing the process and the idealism behind it all.

The last blog I'll be discussing is a novice blogger from Wollongong, Anthea Antidote. She's a fellow student I met at my one year at Raffles College of Design and Commerce. She has a preference for the business side of fashion as she is studying a fashion marketing course rather than fashion design. This is a good alternative to anyone who is a lover of fashion but might not be interested in the creative side of fashion. Anthea started off blogging through Tumblr but has now started a fresh with a more official blog with Blogspot, a wise move for anyone who wants something a bit more polished. Her blog follows her life as a fashion student and fashion from her point of view.

The blog mainly features dark sleek german-electro-esque trends and fashion (think Gareth Pugh and Acne). She has a great sense of style and is yet another strong willed girl who knows what she wants and what her tastes are. The blog is slightly congested in design and colour scheme is a bit sickening but this is staying true to her taste. One can tell easily that Anthea does not focus too much time on her blog. There is little to no text and it is mainly image based. Whether or not it is a good blog is debatable, the content of images are fantastic but as mentioned in the previous blog post, blogs that are image based do not necessarily equal greatness. With this being said one can really tell that Anthea will definitely be in the industry one day, only time will tell if she succeeds.
